May 2005
Monday 2 May - BMW Charity Pro-Am at the Cliffs - 70, 71,
76
A long week with 3 courses and the now mandatory rain delays!
I had a great finish on day 2 of the event with an eagle and
a birdie on 17 and 18 to pick up 3 shots. This week turned
into a 54 hole event and the cut was also 3 rounds, once all
of the players had played the 3 courses! ( have I confused
you all yet!) Clearly my last round on a windy day, of 76,
did me no favours and I missed the cut. I am actually playing
reasonably well and am really looking forward to driving up
the road to North Carolina and to the lovely city of Charlotte.
We are playing the terrific Quail Hollow Club in the Wachovia
Championship. It's time for a solid week of golf and to put
some good numbers together. See you there, Per
Thursday 5 May - Wachovia Championship - 70 (-2)
An excellent day today at Quail Hollow with a 2 under par
70. With a couple of holes to go I was leading the event at
-5, but having a go at the flag on 17, I hit it in the water
and got it up and down for bogey. Coming to the tough 18th
I was feeling good but pulled it a touch left and found the
small creek running down the side of the hole. A poor drop,
layup and pitch and 2 putts and I had made a double. Disappointing
yes, but I have to draw on the great golf I played for the
first 16 holes. I drove the ball straight, my irons were solid
and I made some good putts to keep the score moving along.
This was the best round for me of the year and puts me in
the top 10 going into Fridays round. I am playing in the afternoon
and so can have a lie in before heading to the club. Last
night we had a great dinner at PF Changs with Richard Johnson,
my fellow Swede, who has also had a great start to the event.
Not too sure where we will go tonight. Thanks for all the
emails this week. I had a great start to the week playing
the Monday Pro-Am and I wanted to say hi to my playing partners
- it was a fun day! Catch up with you all tomorrow, Per
Friday 6 May - Wachovia Championship - 71 (-1)
The course was playing tough today and I was really pleased
to be handing in a 71, when the average score was around 75.
Once again I played good solid golf and kept my head well
after an awful start with a bogey on the par 5 10th. I had
about 120 yards to the green with my third shot from the middle
of the fairway and missed the green and chipped and 2 putted
- ouch! I pulled that shot back on 15 to be out in 36 with
good pars on 17 and 18. (Better than yesterdays 3 dropped
shots on those holes!) I bogeyed 4 before rallying with birdies
on 8 and 9. The 8th is a tricky short par 4 and the 9th is
a brute of a par 4 - all 491 yards of it. Those will make
dinner taste good - speaking of which I have to run. It's
my first cut for a while and I hope to capitalise on my current
8th position with a solid final 36 holes. Hope to see you
all out there and thanks for the emails of support, Per
Saturday 7 May - Wachovia Championship - 74 (+2)
A another tough scoring day in which my 74, whilst pushing
me down to tied 17th was no disaster. I started nicely with
a birdie at the first but gave shots back at 2, 5 and 6. With
a birdie at 7 I was out in one over 37. coming back I made
a birdie on 10 and bogeys on 13 and 16 to also come back in
37 for 74. I am in a good position to make the top 10 and
a solid round in the 60s would be great. My game feels good
and I am looking forward to Sunday's play. Top 10 would put
me in next week on TOUR and that is a realistic goal. Sergio
and his 6 shot lead is going to tough to catch for everyone.
Catch up after the round. Bye for now, Per
Sunday 8 May - Wachovia Championship - 72 (even)
I ended up in a tie for 16th after a good round of 72 around
the tough Quail Hollow course. This earned me my first check
of the year and perhaps more importantly gave my confidence
a shot in the arm. I was off to a good start with a birdie
on 2, but didn't manage to capitalise on the front 9 par 5s.
I dropped a shot at the tough 9th, but bounced back with birdies
on 10 and 12. Unfortunately the bogeys I made on 13 and 17
put me back to -1 for the tournament and I missed the top
10 by a couple of shots. Still, looking forward this is a
great result and gives me a base from which to build for the
year. I now have a week off before heading back to the Nationwide
Tour for a couple of weeks. A huge thank you to Kym Hougham,
the Wachovia Championship Tournament Director for giving me
the invitation to play. I really appreciated the opportunity
and was thrilled to make the most of it. Catch up later in
the week, Per
Thursday 19 May - Henrico Open, Richmond - 68 (-4)
I am back on the Nationwide Tour for a couple of weeks and
my game is feeling good. The scoring is likely to be good
this week as amazingly last year the winning score was -30
for 72 holes that is incredible. I started from the 10th tee
today and made 7 birdies in my 68. Unfortunately I finished
poorly with bogeys on 7 and 9 to come back in 36. -4 puts
me inside the cut line and in need of another low one on Friday.
The weather was perfect for golf today with a slight breeze
and a temperature of 65. The forecast for Friday is not good,
so I have a feeling we could be playing cards in the locker
room today. The good news is I am not off until the afternoon,
so if it is bad I am heading to the movies to see the new
Star Wars movie! Catch up after the round, or the movie, tomorrow,

Saturday 20 May - Henrico Open, Richmond - 74 (+2)
Apologies for the delay in filing my report. I am now back
in Florida after missing the cut following a disappointing
74 in round 2 of the Henrico Open. I didn't finish the round
until Saturday and actually made a a birdie and eagle in the
last 3 holes to shoot 74! My front nine last on Friday night
killed me, as I was out in 40 on a golf course where birdies
are really at a premium. So, I "slammed the trunk"
on Saturday afternoon and headed home. I hope to play in the
Fedex Memphis event on the TOUR next week, but right now I
am 6th alternate. I should make it because players are still
able to pull out of an event if they have an injury or other
plausible reason. I will be watching PGATOUR.com for news!
Catch up from Elvis Land, I hope!
Monday 23 May - On The Way To Memphis
I had a call from the entries department this afternoon informing
me I am in the FedEx St. Jude Classic. This is great news
and I am off to the airport tonight in time for a good nights
sleep and practice tomorrow. Bye for now. Per
Wednesday 25 May - FedEx St. Jude Classic
The tee times are out and I am playing off the 10th tee with
Bill Glasson and Jeff Brehaut at 1.03pm. I practiced on the
course yesterday and the course is in good shape and the weather
is beautiful down here. Looking forward to a good week. Catch
up after the round on Thursday, Per
Thursday 26 May - FedEx St. Jude Classic - 69 (-1)
A solid opening round at the TPC at Southwind. They have toughened
up the course since last year with more length and a reduced
par! Starting from the 10th I made 3 birdies on the 9 to be
out in -2. On the back 9 I managed to "bounce back"
from bogeys on 3 and 5 with birdies on 4 and 6. However, I
kept the bogey run going and dropeed one at the 7th, Still,
I am happy with 69 on Day 1 which put me in the top 30. I
have an early tee time Friday, so it will be good to post
another solid score and prepare for the weekend. Thanks for
all the emails of encouragement. I appreciate them all. Catch
up after the round, Per
Monday 30 May - FedEx St. Jude Classic - 71, 71, 70
It was great to be playing 4 rounds at another PGA TOUR event
and extend my run to 2 cuts in a row! I played really well
throughout the week, although I certainly left some shots
out on the course. In the final round, for example, I three
putted a couple of times from inside 30 feet and missed the
green with an 8 iron in my hand. I ended up in a tie for 39th
and this check puts me over $100,000 for the year. Still a
long way to go, but the most important thing is my game feels
good and I am excited to be playing golf again. Jill, Stella
and I travelled back to West Palm last night and after getting
stuck in Atlanta because of weather (there always seems to
be bad weather at Atlanta airport!) we finally made it home.
The next stop for me will be on the Nationwide Tour in Chatanooga.
Catch up later in the week, Per
