August 2003
Friday 1 August - Buick Open, 2nd Round 71 (-1)
What a day it turned out to be, shooting a one under 71 with
17 pars. I birdied the par 5 first hole and then just couldn't
make a putt after that to make the 2 birdies I needed to make
the cut. When I left the course, before the rain delay, the
cut looked like -2 or -3, but -1 certainly wasn't going to
make it. So, I headed back to West Palm for an unexpected
weekend with the expectant Jill! The plan now is to head West
to Denver for The International - a great and unique event
with a special scoring system that rewards aggressive play.
I'm going to need to get the flat stick going ! Catch up later
in the week, Per
Tuesday 5 August - The International, Colorado
Arrived here on Monday in time for some good practice. The
course is great here, as is the hospitality and the legendary
milkshakes! I'm off to the range so a quick update on the
tee times which I just saw. I have a great draw with Bob Tway
and Eduardo Romero. We are off early at 7.10am from the first
in round one and then 1210 in round two from the tenth tee.
I hope to see some of you out there, Per
Wednesday 6 August - West Palm Beach!... A new Johansson
What am I doing in West Palm on Wednesday? Well, I got
a call this morning that Jill was going into labour, so after
quite a number of calls I managed to track down a plane back
to West Palm and I made it in time for the birth of our beautiful
baby girl. The International will have to wait until next
year - I wouldn't have missed the experience for anything.
Both Jill and our daughter are doing well and I will give
you an update later in the week. Sorry, no golf this week!!
Gotta go, Per
Wednesday 13 August - West Palm Beach
It's been a busy week in the Johansson household! On behalf
of Jill and I thank you for all of the emails we have received
this week - it has been overwhelming how many of you have
taken the time to drop us a good wishes note. We really thank
you and appreciate them all. Many of you have been asking
- The baby's name is Stella and she is doing well, as is Jill.
I have been making trips to Babysrus searching for all of
those things we need. How can such a small person need so
much stuff? I am taking 2 weeks of and will be back for the
Deutsche Bank in Boston. At least being here I can spend some
time with Jill and Stella and be close to the Medalist so
I can get some practice before one big push at the end of
the season! Once again thank you for all of your support,

Tuesday 26 August - Back on the road again
I am flying up to Boston tonight for the Deutsche Bank event.
We have had a wonderful time at home with Stella and now it's
time for me to get back to work. It will be hard to leave
the girls back at home, but I need to finish what I started
at the beginning of the year. My schedule will be busy from
here on and I will be keeping you all posted with all the
news as usual. thank you all fore the wonderful emails of
congratulations to Jill and I. We are very appreciative of
your support. Jill and Stella are doing really well and the
Johanssons are adjusting to life with less sleep! I hope to
see some of you up in Boston, Bye for now, Per
Wednesday 27 August - Boston, Deutsche Bank Champsionhip
A great course this week - The TPC of Boston. Actually, we
are just outside Boston in Norton, Mass. The draw is out and
I have a good one with two players in form, Rod Pampling from
Australia and Phillip Price from Wales. We are off the 10th
tee on Friday at 810am and then off the first tee on Saturday
at 120pm. I hope to see some of you there. It's a Monday,
Labor day finish this week for the new event. I'm hitting
it well and ready to go! Bye for now, Per
Friday 29 August - Deutsche Bank Championship, 1st Round
74 (+3)
I made a good start from the 10th today and was 1-under after
3 thanks to a birdie at 12. This is the hardest part of the
course so I was quite happy, but then dropped shots at 13
and 14 but got back to level with a bridie 4 at 18. The front
nine was playing easy and I failed to take advantage as I
bogeyed 1, 5 and the par-5 7th, which felt more like a double.
My putting was poor today - 34 putts is way too many and I
need to improve that and shoot sub 68 if I am to make the
cut. Bye for now, Per
Saturday 30 August - Deutsche Bank Championship, 2nd Round
71 (Even)
Made a terrible start to the front nine today and was 3-over
at the turn after bogeys at 5, 7 and 8. I knew the cut would
be about 1-over or even par and at this point I was six over
so I needed to get some birdies quick. I made a nice 3 at
10 to get off to a good start, but then just parred in to
the par-3 15th, where I holed from 15 feet off the fringe
for a two and then birdied the last, but it was too little
too late. My driving was better today, but 32 putts was too
many and I missed the cut by 3. I need about $150,000 to keep
my card and I will be playing all the events I can between
now and the end of the season to try and make that up, so
the putting will have to improve soon. At least I get to spend
some more time with Gill and Stella. Speak to you soon, Per
