April 2003
Wednesday April 2 - Bell South Classic, Atlanta, Georgia
Had a good day's practice today out at the TPC Sugarloaf course.
Following my day in the sunshine Jill and I worked out at
the gym in the hotel before dinner. My managers, Nick and
Michael are in town and we went to dinner, along with Jesper
to the Asian fusion (fancy name for eastern food!) restauarant
in the hotel in Buckhead. The food was great, but the service
was slow...... Jill and I had an early night because with
a 7.09am tee time I need to be up at about 4.30am! Keep track
on PGATOUR.com for the scores. Gotta go - its late, Per
Saturday April 5 - Back home in West Palm Beach!
Sorry I didn't get to you all after the first couple
of days. It had nothing to do with my scores - just a bad
internet connection! On Thursday I had a bad end to a very
good day! I played so consistently and was so comfortable
out there. My best round of the year. I was -4 going in to
17th and finished even. After a bogey on 17 to drop one I
was still in good shape stepping on to 18 tee. I went for
the green on 18 in two and missed it right. I had to chip
it in the bunker from there as the green is downhill with
water on the other side. I hit a great bunker shot but it
rolled down slowly into the water. I then had to drop from
the fairway and tripled the hole to shoot 72...ouch. After
that we went straight back to the hotel for lunch and then
Jill and I went to Buckhead and walked around the stores to
let off some steam! Sadly the second round was a similar finish
with a bogey, triple finish ensuring I was headed for home,
when a bogey, par finish would have been enough to play on
Saturday and Sunday (this time the poor scores were on 8 and
9!) A very disappointing couple of days after really playing
very good golf for 16 holes each day. Well, I now have a week
off and we are planning a trip away to the Bahamas to get
my head together and enjoy the sunshine. I'll keep you posted
next week - the new look site with my swing is also scheduled
to be on line next week. Bye for now, Per
Monday April 14 - West Palm Beach
We have decided to leave for Hilton Head on Tuesday morning.
It's actually a short distance but still takes 7 hours to
get there by car. We were thinking of driving first but have
decided we will fly early in the morning to Atlanta-Savannah
and then a 40 min car ride. We are renting a condo by the
course, which will be good as the traffic gets really bad
doing the tournament. Unfortunately, we never made it to the
Bahamas last week. The ocean was too rough so we went to Miami
on the intercoastal instead. We were planning to go to the
first island of the Keys but the weather was bad and so we
decided to go back home to West Palm. It took only 2 1/2 hours
on the ocean. We got lucky because the weather was really
bad once we were home. I really enjoyed the week down there
with the Parneviks despite the fact that we didn't get too
far - I needed a week away from the golf course. The immediate
plans are to play Hilton Head, then a week off and then the
next four in a row up to and including the Bank of America
Colonial. Catch up later in the week, Per ps Congratulations
to Mike Weir on a fantastic performance to win the Masters!
Wednesday April 16 - MCI Heritage, Hilton Head
The weather is beautiful here and it is forecast to be nice
all week. I played a practice round with Jesper on Tuesday
and the Harbour Town course is looking good. It has been raining
alot here last week so everything is very green and the greens
are putting well. This is one of my favorite courses of the
year and I am hopeful of a good week. Today, I focussed on
the range and my ball striking felt solid. Jill and I had
dinner at the Parneviks last night. It's nice to be able to
cook 'at home' in our apartment. The tee times are out and
I have a late /early. I am off the 10th tee at 1218pm with
David Edwards and David Berganio and then on Friday play from
the 1st tee at 748am. Looking forward to a great week in a
fun place. Bye for now, Per
Thursday April 17 - MCI Heritage, 1st Round, 73 (+2)
I actually played a lot better then the score shows. I didn't
miss a fairway all day and yet somehow I couldn't make a birdie
putt. It's a long time since I haven't made a birdie in a
round of golf!I didn't really give myself many great birdie
opportunities and on Friday I need to hit my second shots
closer to the pin! I am off early on Friday, hopefully before
the wind picks up and I have to have a good day tomorrow to
stay for the weekend. Jill and I are off for dinner at the
Parnevik's now! Jesper and I are on the same score of 73.
By the way my swing is featured in the new golf magazine,
'Play Better Golf' this month. It's on sale in the UK, Sweden
and the rest of Europe. Check it out, Bye for now, Per
Friday April 18 - MCI Heritage, 2nd Round 69 (-2)
I played reasonably well today and shot 69 to make it through
to the weekend on the mark. Starting from the first I was
off to a good start with birdies on the par fives, 2 and 5.
The greens continue to be slow and I left a lot of putts short,
but fortunately made a lot of long par putts. Today I read
the greens better but my game never felt great - still I hang
in there. After the birdie on 5, I gave one back at 6 and
then parred in, save for the birdie on 14, which got me to
the right side of the cut line. I wasn't sure if even par
was going to make it so I was just practicing on the range
half of the day waiting for the results to come in. It was
worth the wait! We might all go out and eat Thai food tonight.
Catch up on the weekend. Let's hope I can make some birdie
putts and make a big move, Per
Saturday April 19 - MCI Heritage, 3rd Round, 69 (-2)
I made a good seven footer on 18th to finish and shoot 69
and move up to 49th position. Lots to do tomorrow, but an
encouraging round with five birdies. I was off to a fast start
with birdies on 2, 3 and 5, but gave one back at 4. Another
pair of birdies on 12 and 13 were sandwiched between bogeys.
Still, I played pretty well, despite not holing too many putts.
The weather was nice today, a bit cooler then the other days.
I am off with Steve Jones at 10.28am and then Jill and I will
leave right after the round to catch our flight home to Palm
Beach. Off for dinner with Slumans and Parneviks! Bye for
now, Per
Sunday April 20 - MCI Heritage, 4th Round 71(Level)
I dropped back a little today after recording a level par
score of 71. In the end I tied for 56th place on -2. It was
an uneventful day at the Harbour Town course for me with a
pair of birdies on the two front nine par fives, 2 and 5 and
then a pair of bogeys on 8 and 17. Again I hit the ball reasonably,
but wasn't able to get things going on the short grass. I
am now at 132nd in the money list and have to get my scoring
going to climb the rankings. I have a week off now before
playing four in a row, New Orleans, Charlotte, Texas x 2 for
the Byron Nelson and The Colonial (who have very kindly given
me an invitation). Thanks for all the competition entries
and I hope you like the updated graphics on the site. Catch
up with you later in the week, Per
Wednesday April 30 - English Turn, New Orleans
Jill and I are having a good time here in the great city of
New Orleans. The tee times are out and I am playing with my
European colleague, Alex Cejka and also Jeff Gallacher. We
are off in the afternoon on Thursday at 1.12pm and then in
the morning on Friday at 8.27am from the first tee. I hope
to see some of you there. I'll be back to you with more details
- gotta run to dinner! Per
