July 2002
Thursday July 11 - Barclays Scottish Open, 1st Round, 69
(-2)
What a miserable weather day it was. The fairways are now
so wet we were playing preferred lies and even then it was
almost impossible to find relief. The greens are as good as
ever and are miraculously running firm and true. I drove the
ball really well today, but my irons were not quite up to
standard. I made 5 birdies on the day and only 3 bogeys which
on this par 71 course added up to a 2 under 69. This puts
me in good shape and the goal remains to earn a spot in next
weeks Open without the 36 hole qualifying. Who knows even
a win is not out of the question and with an early time maybe
I can move up the board before the leaders head out. Catch
up on Friday, Per
Friday July 12 - Barclays Scottish Open, 2nd Round, 73
(+2)
A disappointing day after a good start yesterday. I shot a
73 which moved me back down the field on the day I need to
be moving forward. I played reasonably well apart from two
holes which cost me five shots. I started with a double and
after working hard to get back to -3 , I made a triple at
15 to go level. After shooting a 73 I will really need to
turn it on at the weekend to make the Open. Now that I have
made the cut and will play on the weekend there is no going
back, with the scheduling conflicting. Something really needs
to get done about this and I think next year common sense
will finally prevail and you will see another event being
used as the qualifier (like the US Tour with the Western Open
last week). Any way off to dinner with some friends. Catch
up tomorrow, Per
Saturday July 13 - Barclays Scottish Open, 3rd Round, 71
(Level)
An improvement on Friday, but my position has only slightly
improved and unless I can really shoot the lights out tomorrow
a position in the Open field looks unlikely. Nothing really
got going today and I had three birdies at 3, 9 and 13. Unfortunatly,
these were cancelled out by bogies at 2, 12 and 16. So 71,
level par was the result. Frederik Jacobsen is still leading
and I really hope he keeps playing as well as he has done
so far and can win for himself and Sweden. After the round
I hit some balls and will head for an early dinner. Jill is
still in Sweden so it has given me the chance to catch up
with some old friends from my European Tour days. Bye for
now, Per
Sunday July 14 - Barclays Scottish Open, 4th Round, 72
(Level)
Hopes of playing in the Open Championship were dashed with
an average round of 72 today. I played ok, but not better
than that and finishing with 3 bogeys was particularly disappointing.
Finishing with 3 birdies would still not have been good enough
and I have resigned myself to a week off back in Sweden before
my wedding the following week. Thanks for all the emails of
support, sorry it wasn't quite there this week. I plan on
flying back on Monday and can then clear my head before getting
my game in shape for the rest of the season. My next event
is the Volvo Scandinavian Masters in Stockholm. There are
huge crowds at this extremely well run event. I hope some
of you can make it. Catch up later in the week, Per
Monday July 29 - Stockholm
We are back in Stockholm after our wonderful wedding on Saturday.
What a glorious day it was! This week I will play in the Volvo
Scandinavian Masters ( what a honeymonn for Jill!). I will
be reporting each day. On Tuesday I will be playing in a special
event which starts at 2pm. I hope some of you can make it
out there, Catch up later, Per
Wednesday July 31 - Volvo Scandinavian Masters, Stockholm,
Sweden
It has been another wonderful day here in Kungsangen. I played
in the pro-am today and we had fun shooting -9. Let's hope
I can do that on Thursday. I have a great draw playing at
08.20 with Barry Lane and Pierre Fulke. The course is playing
slightly shorter than the last time we were here and you will
see some low scores this week if the weather stays hot. It's
great to be back playing in front of friends and family and
I'm am excited to be back playing again after a couple of
weeks off. I'll keep you posted after my round. Today is your
last chance to enter this month's competition! Catch up later,
