Sunday April 1 - Back in Jupiter
Just a quick note to tell you I did an interview with PGATOUR.com
today and it will appear on their site on Tuesday 3rd April....Back
to the packing!..Per
Thursday April 5 - In Stockholm
It's the first day of The Masters. Yes, of course I wish I
was there. Not this year unfortunately, but if I carry on
playing well I will be there next year. It's a very special
place and I have played well each time I have been there.
I was 12th the first 2 years and 24th in 1998 (when the qualification
for the following year was changed from top 24 to top 16)
I am back in Sweden taking care of some things before heading
back to the US for The WorldCom in Hilton Head. I plan on
seeing friends and family and running as many errands as possible
in the limited time I have here. As most of you know my home
is in Spain so at least I have no house to worry about here.
Like you will be watching The Masters and pulling for Jesper
and Pierre Fulke, the two Swedes in the field. I travel back
on Sunday and will update you from South Carolina. I hope
it's warmer than Stockholm!!..Bye for now...Per
Wednesday April 11 - Hilton Head, The Worldcom Classic
Hi I'm back. I had a great week in Sweden and the opportunity
to see Jill, friends and relations, including my Grandmother's
90th birthday. It was a real surprise for her and I'm so glad
I got back for it. I came back to the US on Monday and am
now in Hilton Head, South Carolina staying at the stripiest
hotel you have ever seen! I'm not kidding, every wall around
the hotel has blue and white stripes on it! I think it is
supposed to be the nautical theme. I'm here for the Worldcom
Classic (the former MCI) and have just had the opportunity
to see the course which is as good as ever. There have been
a number of changes and the course will play tough all week.
The heat is not going to help..it's 90 degrees today. I do
enjoy it here and it feels great to be back after some R&R.
I caught up with Nick for breakfast yesterday and he tells
me it looks good for the next few weeks entries, so I will
have lots to tell you about in the coming weeks. A BIG thank
you to Tournament Director, Steve Wilmot and his committee
for giving me an invitation this week to play. I need to start
putting some $$ on the board and take these opportunities.
I'll report back with news from the course tomorrow...Thats
all for now..Per oh, one more thing, congratulations to Tiger
for an incredible accomplishment. You can call it what you
want, Slam, Tiger Slam, or whatever. The fact is it is truly
remarkable.
Thursday April 12 - The Worldcom Classic,The Heritage of
Golf
I am off at 1.30 local time from the 10th tee (again!) and
then the 1st tee tomorrow morning at 9.21. I am playing with
Bob Boyd from the US and the exciting young Australian player,
Aaron Baddeley. Another big purse this week at $3.5 million.
The defending champion is Stewart Cink. I had a great start
here a couple of years ago...lets try and do it again!...Catch
up with you later....Per
Tuesday April 17 - Houston: Worldcom Classic Update
Apologies for not updating you sooner. I have had a few technical
problems that have now been sorted. I hope you all had a good
Easter. Unfortunately I had the weekend off after shooting
two rather unspectacular 73s. With the par at 71 a score of
plus four was too many. With the cut at even I was resigned
to a weekend on the range continuing to work hard on finding
a rhythm to take to the course. So, I am now in Houston for
the Shell Houston Open and with my computer fully operational
I will be able to keep you posted. I just need to get my game
back to the level that I know I am capable of to give you
all some positive news. Thanks for all the encouragement even
in the hard times. Stay with me - it will happen soon...Per
Wednesday April 18 - Shell Houston Open at the TPC at Woodlands
I thought you would like to see the tee times. No I'm not
last off this time! Thursday 0900 with Kent Jones and Chris
Tidland Friday 1345 with the same players The course is another
good one. It is designed by Robert Von Hagge and Bruce Devlin.
Friday April 20 - Shell Houston Open Update
Sorry have been unable to get access to update you - that's
the internet for you. Had a disappointing first round of 75
(+3) followed by a level par 72. Unfortunately that was two
shots over the cut so I was 'slamming my trunk' as the American
golfers say when you have to put your clubs in the car (gently
of course) and head for home. I am going to stay on here to
get some practise before heading to Florida. Speak to you
soon, Per.
Sunday April 22 - Florida
After a day hitting balls in Texas it was time to come back
to West Palm Beach and relax for a day. My practice regime
has been rigorous for the last few weeks and I need a rest
from hitting balls. My usual routine is to work through the
bag starting with a sand iron and end up with 20 or 30 shots
with the driver. I often do this before the round to warm
up and then after the round to warm down. I strongly recommend
that you at least try and hit some shots before you go out
for your weekend round. If you don't you may end up warming
up over the first 6 holes and find yourself a few down to
your opponnent who did arrive early enough at the club to
practice! I will move on to North Carolina tomorrow night
for the Greater Greensboro Classic. I am still feeling good
and although the results don't yet show it my game is really
close to being good...Catch up with you in the week...Per
Tuesday April 24 - Greensboro, North Carolina
Another new state for the year, this time it's North Carolina.
The home of many famous courses, this week I am playing at
Forest Oaks Country Club. The defending champion is last weeks
winner, Hal Sutton and the purse is $3.5 million. At 7062
yards the course is not one of the longest on Tour so expect
the scoring to be good. This is an historic event and I have
extracted a few lines from PGATOUR.com which tells you about
it. History has been written in volumes at the Greater Greensboro
Chrysler Classic, which was first held in 1938. Aside from
the four major championships, the tournament is the seventh
oldest on the PGA TOUR. The GGCC, contested again this week
at Forest Oaks Country Club, benefits from a unique relationship
with a living legend in Sam Snead. "He's quite involved,"
said Dick Baker, who serves as the GGCC's tournament director.
"He calls Greensboro his second home because he won this tournament
eight times. The tournament's trophy was named after Snead
in 1998, and the 88-year-old, who is the all-time leader in
TOUR titles with 81, will host the Champion's Dinner this
week. Snead also presents the trophy to the winner each year.
"I think the TOUR players feel special when they come off
of the 18th green and see Sam Snead standing there. It is
a big honor to stand with one of the last living legends of
the game," Baker said. I sure hope to have the opportunity
to meet Sam Snead here this week. I 'm off to practice after
getting here late last night..That's all for now...Per
Thursday April 26 - Greater Greensboro Chrysler Classic
- 69 (-3)
An eagle to finish !! What a way to end the round. I was lying
1 under approaching 18 and after a good drive managed to hole
my second shot for an eagle two. That put me in the clubhouse
on 69 and in the top 10 early in the day. What a great feeling
not putting !! I played well throughout the day and with birdies
on the 1st, 13th, and 15th a was not unhappy with the day
as I came to the last. (I also had a couple of bogeys at 12
and 14). Maybe this is the kick start I needed to get me going
. We all need a little luck on the course! Headed to the range
after play, but that shot will make dinner taste good tonight...Bye
for now...Per
Friday April 27 - Greater Greensboro Chrysler Classic -
75 (+3)
After such an encouraging start my downfall this week came
at the 17th hole where I made a double bogey 5 to miss the
cut by 2 shots. Today's round of 75 was just not good enough
and it was a very frustrating day. After yesterday's eagle
I had hoped things were turning mt way but it was not to be
today. I plan on continuing to play through this poor run
of results and feel the good scores are close. Afer the round
I headed back to my base in Florida and will spend a day at
The Medalist and visit with Jesper and Mia Parnevik. I'll
catch up with you next week as I head to New Orleans...Bye
for now...Per
